Onderwerp: Hellikin's Most Frequently Asked Questions

This is an index of the questions that I have been asked the most - I will update this initial posting from time to time.

1) How do I do [insert feature here] in my clan page/the server forum/global forum?

2) How can I communicate "discretely?" (Includes private channel examples)

3) What does the troop speed mean in march times for different units?

4) What was the link for units, spells, technologies, etc?

Re: Hellikin's Most Frequently Asked Questions

1) How do I do [insert feature here] in my clan page/the server forum/global forum?
(note that some (many) of these also work in the chat channel)

Post an image:

Post a link:

Link title

For example, using:

Google

Will give you: Google

Write:
Bold text:

Text

Underline text:

Text

Italics text:

Text

Red text:

Text

Blue text is:

Text

To make a box
Text in box
To attribute a quote:
Text Hellikin said
Note that these can be nested.  This is correct:

Text

This is not correct:

Text
7 x 13 = 28

Re: Hellikin's Most Frequently Asked Questions

2) How can I communicate "discretely"

In the chat channel, you have three basic options.
- Private message (the word "Hello" is visible only to me):

/msg Hellikin Hello

- Clan chat (visible only to your fellow clan members:

/clan Hey guys

- Private chat channel:
This one is more complicated.  Players have the option to change chat channels.  Two of the most used are #EN (the English-language channel) and #NL.  Players typically default into one of these channels when they enter chat.  Players can change channels with the /join #EN or /join #NL commands.  Please remember that these channels (and all other default channels) are moderated.
Players also have the option of entering a private channel.  Private channels are just that - private.  The moderators do not (and cannot) access them without knowing the channel name.  This means that by entering a private chat channel, you remove a certain degree of protection.  A player who enters the #EN chat channel (or any default chat channel) and types:

/join #EGG

...will create a chat channel named "#EGG" (Yes, the # is required).  It will be confirmed by a "flicker" as chat "thinks" and then the last two posts that you could see that were private will be repeated.  Failure to receive this confirmation means that you did NOT change from the default channel.  As long as this channel name (#EGG) remains secret, your privacy is ensured and messages sent in the open are visible only to members in the private channel.  To join a pre-existing channel, another player must also type "/join #EGG" and will receive the same confirmation flicker and repeat.  To exit from the private channel #EGG back to #EN a player must type (and receive the same type of confirmation as before)

/join #EN

Channels disappear some time after the last member in the channel exits to another channel.

7 x 13 = 28

Re: Hellikin's Most Frequently Asked Questions

3) What does the troop speed mean in march times for different units?

Bottom line:
- On normal servers, the march speed is the number of leagues that a unit can cover per hour.
- On speed servers, the march speed multiplied by 3 is the number of leagues that a unit can cover per hour.

Detailed Explanation:
The map is made up of tiles:
My castle is on speed is currently at [-460,-264]
Another (fearsome enemy) castle is at [701,-908]

Every 10 tiles is one league, so the distance (according to Pythagoras) between our villages is:
(-460 - 701)^2 + (-264 - 908)^2=1762657
Take the square root of that 1762657 and we have 1327.650933
This is the number of tiles between our villages: 1327.7
Divide this number by 10 to get the number of leagues: 132.77 (Check Doluseek to confirm my math)

OK, the march speed is the number of leagues that unit can cover per hour on normal (stable) servers.  So my guals can cover 20 L/hr which is the same as 200 tiles/hr
If I divide that 132.77 by 20, we get 6.63 hours march time for gual. This is how long it would take me to march that distance at standard server speeds.

However, these two villages are not 6 hours, 40 minutes apart on this server, so we need to modify the march speed.  A speed server operates at 3x the speed of a normal server, so:
Multiply 20 * 3 and you get 60. This is the number of leagues that a unit can cover at speed server speeds.
Divide the 132.77 by 60 and you should find that my guals take 2.21 hours to reach that village (approx 2 hours 12 mins)

Other modifications to marching speed:
If I have haste 5 running (troops move 50% faster) you need to multiply that 60 by 1.5 giving you 90. 132.77 divided by 90 will give you 1.475 hours gual marching time.
Similarly, if someone has hit my village with "Steal Maps 1," then we would reduce that 60 accordingly.

4) What was the link for units, spells, technologies, etc?

Human & Elf Units
- See above for differences between server speeds

Weapons & Armor

Wizard & Thief Actions
- Spells & Tower Types (divide duration column by three for speed servers)

Human Technology Tree

Elf Technology Tree

Note:
The above reports are for the current speed server found at http://speed.neuroninteractive.com.  You can change the subdomain to get the reports for different servers (i.e. Units on Beta)
