3) What does the troop speed mean in march times for different units?
Bottom line:
- On normal servers, the march speed is the number of leagues that a unit can cover per hour.
- On speed servers, the march speed multiplied by 3 is the number of leagues that a unit can cover per hour.
Detailed Explanation:
The map is made up of tiles:
My castle is on speed is currently at [-460,-264]
Another (fearsome enemy) castle is at [701,-908]
Every 10 tiles is one league, so the distance (according to Pythagoras) between our villages is:
(-460 - 701)^2 + (-264 - 908)^2=1762657
Take the square root of that 1762657 and we have 1327.650933
This is the number of tiles between our villages: 1327.7
Divide this number by 10 to get the number of leagues: 132.77 (Check Doluseek to confirm my math)
OK, the march speed is the number of leagues that unit can cover per hour on normal (stable) servers. So my guals can cover 20 L/hr which is the same as 200 tiles/hr
If I divide that 132.77 by 20, we get 6.63 hours march time for gual. This is how long it would take me to march that distance at standard server speeds.
However, these two villages are not 6 hours, 40 minutes apart on this server, so we need to modify the march speed. A speed server operates at 3x the speed of a normal server, so:
Multiply 20 * 3 and you get 60. This is the number of leagues that a unit can cover at speed server speeds.
Divide the 132.77 by 60 and you should find that my guals take 2.21 hours to reach that village (approx 2 hours 12 mins)
Other modifications to marching speed:
If I have haste 5 running (troops move 50% faster) you need to multiply that 60 by 1.5 giving you 90. 132.77 divided by 90 will give you 1.475 hours gual marching time.
Similarly, if someone has hit my village with "Steal Maps 1," then we would reduce that 60 accordingly.

Economics today is a race between economists striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof economic or financial models or programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning...
