Onderwerp: Chat Feature that *needs* implementing

How many people on dolumar utilize third party apps to communicate with their clan /alliance etc?

willing to bet, alot...

why cant there be an added chat window for clan speak, and perhaps one for private message (blue chat) as well?

By not having such features, new people who come to the game and enter chat are sometimes met with silence, true sometimes because no one is on...but more times then not, because the people who are on, are utilizing a third party chat program to communicate and not paying attention to dolumar chat.

the newbie thinks the game is dead, or very sparsely populated and moves on to some other new game.

Retention of players is paramount for game success, a chat feature such as the above would not change game balance at all, but would improve communications, improved communications means  newer players might stay longer then feel like they are being ignored or joining a "ghost" game.

I realize there is alot on the developer's plates right now, but ease of communication should be up near top, if you look at any major game, communication is a focus point on how its rated as well as other features.

While dolumar doesnt require split second decision making, thus making a voice program necessary, it does require secure information sending and receiving.

I think this is one of the best ideas...though id rather see clan jumping and spell price reduction first smile

dude, thx for input smile

We have increased clan communication in the list for... years. And clan chat is definitely included.
and you're right about the rest btw

Re: Chat Feature that *needs* implementing

make chat JUST for clan chat, ability to add/remove non-clan ppl from this chat, get rid of the whole public part, you improve clan communication, and get rid of dolumar's rambling jambling ppl. 2 birds in 1 stone wink

I like the idea... the original one... clan chat and pub chat and perhaps pm-ing in seperate windows!!

Your village is 38100% bigger than the defending village. You will probably lose 90 honour by attacking this village. If someone of your clan attacked this village earlier, every clan member will lose honour.

Re: Chat Feature that *needs* implementing

Maybe instead of two windows... install a "3-way toggle switch" that when set to "clan" prefixes every line sent out with "/clan" and only shows messages sent with "/clan" and when switched to "mixed" still prefixes all lines typed with "/clan" but shows the open chat as well.  Set "Normal" as the default.  Some people really like lurking... this will keep them happy smile

Re: Chat Feature that *needs* implementing

I think the idea is to get rid of the prefixes.. anything typed in the clan "tab" or "window" will be clantalk, anything in the private window private and all other things public.....
@ least, that would be my main reason.. lurking is fine and shoud stay!

Re: Chat Feature that *needs* implementing

I had an idea of how to implement this earlier here:  http://forum.dolumar.be/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=626

Basically a more technical look at it, but all /msg will be displayed in their own private windows, and all /clan goes to its own window... but it is all done on the user side so the actual chat backend would not need changed.

And God Said:
Δ*D = ρf                   Δ*B = 0
ΔxE = -δB/δt            ΔxH = Jf + δD/δt
and THEN there was light.

Re: Chat Feature that *needs* implementing

I think all messages should show up in the same window, but the user should have the ability to choose a dedicated channel that all messages are sent to.  One channel for clan chat, one for open chat and a way to blue message players by clicking on their name in the chat window. The color codes would then indicate what type of message was sent and received, less window clutter, better control of chat comms.

Re: Chat Feature that *needs* implementing

Well there are many ways an idea like this can be implemented.  From tabbed windows, to several windows...

I would like to see options for different methods.

ΔxE = -δB/δt            ΔxH = Jf + δD/δt

Re: Chat Feature that *needs* implementing

How hard would it be just to put a another link in the list that says clan chat..then it opens a separate chat room popup like public chat, however it goes to clan only? That would be simple and most reasonable to the game I would think.
